“Oh come; let us sing to the LORD!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of
Our salvation. Let us come before
His presence with thanksgiving;
Let us shout joyfully to Him
with psalms.” Psalm 95:1

Someone once said “Worship prepares us for the word, and the word prepares us for worship”. In speaking to the
woman of Samaria Jesus said; (John 4:24) “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and
truth.” So, worship is not just something we do for 15-20 minutes before the sermon. Worship is a lifestyle!
Worshipping in song should be an expression of our whole heart. This involves the body, soul, and the spirit.
These three cannot be separated. Sometimes we express our grievances and other times our joy. King David was
truly gifted in expressing his victories and defeats in the form of songs. These songs (Psalms) always contained
his total dependence on the God of Israel. Therefore, wherever we may find ourselves in life, our worship must
always lead us to an increased dependence on God. Our worship must also contain obedience! After King Saul
disobeyed God the prophet Samuel said; (1Sam.15:22) “…Behold to obey is better than sacrifice.” The Lord will
not receive our worship if we are not living in obedience to His word. Jesus said; (Matt.15:8-9) “These people draw
near to Me with their mouth, And honor me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me and in vain they worship
Me…” To worship in “spirit and truth” is to have a lifestyle that reflects the holiness of our God. Evidence of true
worship is followed by a greater love, dependence, and obedience to the Lord.
